    Die hohen Stimmengewinne in Hessen machen den
    Sozialdemokraten Mut für die Landtagswahl in Hamburg. In der
    Hansestadt kämpft die SPD um eine Rückkehr an die Macht, in Umfragen
    liegt sie aber hinter der regierenden CDU. Die Sozialdemokraten
    hoffen auf eine rot-grüne Koalition.

    Die SPD hat das Wahljahr 2008 mit neuem Programm und Profil
    begonnen. Als «linke Volkspartei» zielt sie auf die «solidarische
    Mehrheit» der Bevölkerung. Nach Ansicht der Forschungsgruppe Wahlen
    steht die Partei vor einem «strategischen Dilemma»: Sie konkurriert
    im linken Lager mit den Grünen sowie der Linken und kämpft zugleich
    mit der CDU um die Mitte.

    Nach der Bundestagswahl 2005 wurde aus der Kanzlerpartei SPD der
    Juniorpartner einer großen Koalition. Bei vier der acht nachfolgenden
    Landtagswahlen hatte sie zwar Stimmenverluste, musste aber nirgendwo
    Ministerämter abgeben. Zuletzt lag die SPD am 27. Januar in Hessen
    nur knapp 3600 Stimmen hinter der CDU. Das beste Ergebnis waren 45,6
    Prozent in Rheinland-Pfalz, wo Kurt Beck und seine Partei seit 2006
    allein regieren.
